People’s Emergency Briefing Update
The recent heatwaves have made us all more aware of the climate crisis and its effect locally and in Europe. There is still time to act to reduce the worst effects of the crisis on all aspects of our lives: health, food, cost of living, national security and more.
One of the ways of doing so is to share the information available now and take action. This is the aim of the film, The People’s Emergency Briefing. It’s an adapted version of the talks given by climate scientists and researchers to MPs, business, faith, council and other leaders in Westminster Hall last November.
The film has been shown to over 20 groups locally, and over 4,000 nationally, since it was launched in April but it needs to reach all communities. If you are a member of a group: church, faith, 6th form college, charity, National Trust, RSPB, WI, U3A, friends of parks, council, CVS or workplace, or want to share with family and friends, arrange to show the film as soon as possible.
Go to the National Emergency Briefing website to register your screening and also to find out when and where it’s being shown locally and nationally.

The film is 50 minutes long, followed by a discussion on action and it’s free. There is new guidance on programmes for 16+ screenings in educational establishments; Christian groups and for workplace screenings. All available on the website.
We have shown it at WEN and are supporting screenings in Merseyside and monthly follow up meetings. A Climate Cafe is planned on Wednesday 9th September, 6 – 8pm, at Quaker Meeting House in Liverpool. You can book your free place via Eventbrite.
The local group promoting the film can help and we are then all part of the solution, rather than the problem. Email PEB-Merseyside@protonmail.com for advice.
In the film, Professor Hayley Fowler, Professor of Climate Change Impacts at Newcastle University, says, “It’s sobering when you realise that this is the least extreme climate you will experience in your lifetime”. Although the film is sobering, it also shows the immense opportunities for a healthier future. Please arrange to see the film now.
