You might want to catch a local screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing. It’s a film which shows the climate and nature crises we all face, based on the National Emergency Briefing held last year.

In the film, leading UK experts outline the threats arising from these crises in terms of our food supply, infrastructure, health, economy and our national security and suggest how solutions can be made to happen. It is being shown in communities nationally and we hope elected representatives, MPs and councillors will come along to watch with us. Afterwards there will be a structured discussion about implications for our communities, and ways forward.

The aim is to ensure the UK is clearly and honestly briefed on the climate and nature crisis and what a proportionate national response requires.

The Briefing took place in Westminster Hall on 27th November to an invited audience of MPs, members of House of Lords, council, faith, business, health, media and sports leaders. There was an introduction by Chris Packham, followed by short talks from experts on climate, nature, tipping points, climate extremes, food security, health, national security, and the economy.

No Wirral MPs attended the briefing in Westminster but if they can be persuaded to add their voices to the call for a televised screening by a large number of people asking them to back the campaign, together we can work to ensure adequate responses to the climate and nature emergencies.

WEN started 40 years ago as Wirral Green Alliance to provide solutions to these issues and we have the solutions in our grasp. We need to share the knowledge, and have the political and community will, to make the changes needed.

The film will be released on 7th April. It is 48 minutes long. The intention is that people watch it together as human beings and citizens, ideally with their local MP, discuss it afterwards in a facilitated format, and leave feeling motivated to engage and act. We will then have a common understanding of the risks and be able to support constructive collective action.

We hope our elected representatives will attend alongside us, hear us and act. The NEB has an unprecedented level of support from a diverse range of national organisations such as the National Trust, WWF, WI, the National Education Union and the RSPB.
