October 2022 News
After a successful collaboration earlier in the year, in October we held some more free gardening training sessions at Holy Apostles and Martyrs Parish Church Garden in Wallasey and Callister Garden in Birkenhead.
Carol taught how to make compost at the HAM Parish Garden and, at Callister Garden, she gave advice on methods for saving and storing seeds, making leaf mulch, and helping plants survive through the winter.
These training sessions were funded through a grant from Wirral Council and it has been great to work together with volunteers from the two gardens and Faiths4Change to improve our community spaces and create links between different groups.
On 8th October, the Eco Art sculptures spent an afternoon in the sunshine at Holy Apostles and Martyrs Church Garden for their Open Garden event.
Don’t forget, if you would like to book the Eco Art for a school or community event, you can find out more and fill in the form on our website.
There were three more Climate Change Workshops at Make It Happen – Birkenhead, following on from the first session at the end of September. We helped the group to work out how to reduce their personal and community carbon footprints, looking at travel, eating habits, utility use and product purchasing. Energy Projects Plus provided examples of energy saving solutions, including cylinder jackets, room thermostats, pipe insulation, radiator panels, low energy lightbulbs and the range of insulation options.
It has been lovely to spend time with the Nourish to Flourish group for the workshops. The group provides a space for people to make social connections and share views on how to improve the local environment. They meet every Tuesday at 10am at Make It Happen’s Place of Contribution on Argyle Street in Birkenhead.
