December 2023 News
As one of the Cool Wirral partner organisations, WEN participated in ‘Climate Action across Wirral‘, which brought together businesses, community groups and residents to celebrate climate achievements and look at future commitments. We watched a presentation looking at the highlights from the past year, and then helped facilitate discussion groups to share ideas and experience on climate action.
This was followed by a Sustainable Christmas Fair, with local businesses selling items such as homeware, gifts and jewellery. As well as the stalls, there were creative workshops in the gallery’s art room and tasty Christmas treats in the cafe.
19th December saw the second Transition Cafe at the Quaker Meeting House in Liverpool. The Transition Cafe is a joint initiative between Liverpool Quakers, Transition Liverpool, Faiths4Change and Wirral Environmental Network. It is a place to share our climate concerns, and enjoy a meal together, followed by a speaker, film or other activities.
The December session had a festive theme and featured ideas for sustainable gifts and decorations, including making a wreath using fabric from an old T-shirt and creating crackers from toilet rolls and some old wrapping paper.
The Transition Cafe takes place on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, with the next one on Tuesday 16th January 2024. The events are free and there is no need to book – please come along and join in!
As 2023 comes to a close, we send you our very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
