April 2022 News

Here’s another monthly round up of our activities. Where does the time go?!

In the Green Hub at the St James Garden, we continued with planting and tending individual beds and volunteers were able to help themselves to the curly kale and rainbow kale in the training area. We decorated the garden with colourful plants and bunting, all ready for children from the St James Centre to visit for an Easter Egg Hunt.

We welcomed Alice to the Bee Wirral Elemental Project allotment for her work experience placement. The men’s group worked together to paint the raised beds and remove unwanted plants. They then planted up the beds with kale, leeks and beans. Some sifted soil to fill in any uneven ground in the wildlife borders. Others sowed seeds for plant sales later in the season. They spent time putting netting on fruiting crops and planted out lettuce in the raised beds.

We have joined forces with several other local groups to offer gardening training workshops at community gardens in Wallasey and Birkenhead. The first session took place at Falkland Road on 22nd April and covered what to sow now, pricking out and potting on. It also included a walk and talk around WEN.
